The skipper of the Indian National Cricket Team Virat Kohli is hopeful of Prithvi Shaw delivering goods for the team in the upcoming Test match at Christchurch. He believes the youngster got the calibre – to make things fall in place for the team once he gets settled in the middle.

The mighty Indian batting line-up at home was left exposed, in the testing overseas condition of Wellington, in the first Test match against New Zealand. With below-par scores of 165 and 191, the Indian batting line-up collapsed on the track offered at Basin Reserve.

The opener Shaw failed to cope up with the pressure and looked uncomfortable in the middle with a few of his technical lapses being exposed.

We need to sit down and discuss: Virat Kohli

Speaking of the same, India captain Kohli does not want to read too much after just one match in foreign conditions and he wants to be patient and let the young man get through a few more games.

“I don’t think at this stage, we need to sit down and discuss what’s going wrong because I don’t see anything wrong. It’s the execution of things which was not there,” Kohli said.

“It is just a matter of understanding the pace of the wicket and conditions as soon as possible. Again, when he is in a clear frame of mind, he is very, very destructive. Once he feels that he can do it, I think it will be a different ball game. The mindset can shift very quickly,” Kohli said.

Virat Kohli wants to ‘give time’ to Prithvi Shaw:

Shaw, an U-19 World Cup-winning captain two year’s ago and the star debutant later in the year, had a rough 12 months and his return to the international fold wasn’t as eventful as it was two summers back.

“Prithvi obviously wants to perform and no doubt about it, every batsman wants to. We need to give him that time to get used to the conditions a little bit and once he starts scoring, he will feel more confident about it,” the captain added.
