One of the major aspects for the Indian National Cricket Team‘s success in the Test format in the last couple of years is their sheer dominance with the bat. They have got the settled batsmen in the lineup, who can dismantle any kind of bowling attack but unfortunately, it wasn’t the case in the previous game against New Zealand. Speaking of the same, the former New Zealand cricketer Craig McMillan slams Indian batsmen for their approach.

Apart from Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane, all the other batsmen never looked in control in the middle for India. They committed themselves to chase the ball more often than not in those swinging conditions in Wellington. He feels that the batsmen have failed to adjust to the conditions.

He also highlighted the bounce factor in New Zealand. McMillan felt that the Indian batsmen chased the ball as they play in India, which isn’t going to work, especially against the likes of Tim Southee and Trent Boult.

“They didn’t make any adjustments in the way they played, they threw their hands at the ball like they do in India,” he told Radio Sport.

“When the ball doesn’t bounce above knee-high you can get away with some of those shots – in New Zealand you don’t,” McMillan said.

The former fast bowler lauded the effort of Tim Southee and Boult, who were exceptional during the course of the game. Craig added that he never saw India being dismantled for small tallies in the recent past.

“When the ball’s swinging, and it did for most of that Wellington Test, Boult and Southee are geniuses. I haven’t seen India, the number one Test side in the world, dismantled like they were over those four days in Wellington. To do so against a team who had won seven straight Tests, each by a massive margin, makes it even more impressive,” he added.

As McMillan said, India displayed poor cricketing skills in the middle with the bat and also never looked settled during the four days. Both teams will travel to Christchurch for the final Test, which is also the last game of India’s tour.
