Veteran India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has joined the list of eminent names from Indian cricket who are slamming Michael Clarke for his recent claims that Australian cricketers sucked up to India captain Virat Kohli for protecting their IPL contracts.

The former Australia captain recently raised a number of eyebrows with his claims regarding the Australian cricketers’ behaviour in the 2018-19 Test series against India. Speaking on Big Sports Breakfast, the World Cup-winning skipper said Australian cricket went through a phase when players were too scared to sledge Indian stars especially Virat Kohli for fear it could jeopardise their contracts in the lucrative IPL.

He went as far as saying that his compatriots ‘sucked up’ to Virat Kohli and India to protect their million dollar IPL deals. Unsurprisingly, his comments drew reaction from all around with even the likes of Pat Cummins and Tim Paine denying the claims.

As far as Indian cricketers are concerned, the likes of Krishnamachari Srikkanth and VVS Laxman slammed Clarke for his comments. And now Harbhajan Singh has also done the same.

“Virat Kohli does not give contracts to all! If you’re good enough nobody will stop you. Someone like (David) Warner or (Steve) Smith…how can you stop them? They don’t need to fear for their contracts. I don’t know if, at all he felt there are guys (who fear for their contracts), he should have named them. But I don’t think putting everyone on the same boat is right,” Harbhajan Singh was quoted as saying by The Times of India.

“Every franchise has right to buy whoever they want to buy. They know who can win them games. If they will do well, they will have better chance to get picked. So it won’t make a difference if you are in Virat’s good books or any other player’s good books. On the contrary, if someone gets Virat out four times under 10 runs, he will say…pick him,” added Harbhajan Singh who plies his trade for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
