It was not easy to be in the same shoes as Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster had a billion expectations on his shoulders and he was able to do justice with the same on most of the occasions. Similarly, there are the same expectations from Indian skipper Virat Kohli. The talisman batsman is the most consistent batsman in the world and he has delivered the goods on most occasions for the Men in Blue. Consequently, former Sri Lankan skipper Mahela Jayawardene showered praise on Virat Kohli.

Kohli is the best batsman in the world and he has done a great job while leading the side. In fact, Kohli’s batting has improved since he has taken over the captaincy baton from former Indian captain MS Dhoni.

Kohli has done a great job.

Kohli is scoring runs in all but every match and his records speak for himself. He is breaking every record in the book and his consistency knows no bounds.

“It’s not just about the ability Virat has but to understand the way to handle pressure not just on the field but also off the field and the expectations. We grew up with Sachin who had to perhaps experience the same thing. And for the next generation, it’s probably on Virat’s shoulders, with MS Dhoni carrying on for a while. Virat has a good group of guys around him as well. If you ask the Indian fans they would want Virat to win the game and that is something he has managed to control really well,” Mahela Jayawardene said while talking to India Today.

Meanwhile, Mahela Jayawardene believes it not easy to captain a side. However, Kohli has been able to deliver both as the leader of the side as well as the batsman. Thus, Kohli has ticked the right boxes in both roles.

“Being the captain as well is not an easy thing. He has managed to understand that the captain’s role is on the field but when he is batting it is that which is very important. So those are little things that define a personality and that is what he has been able to do really well,” he pointed out.

Virat Kohli was rested from the final two ODIs and the three-match T20I series against New Zealand. Consequently, the Indian captain is expected to be back in India’s squad for the limited overs series against Australia. Kohli has done a great job for the India National Cricket Team and he would like to continue in a similar fashion.

Kohli is going to hold the key for the Indian team in the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. He has been instrumental in the success of the team over the years and he would like to be at the top of his game in the ODI showpiece.
