Virat Kohli Becomes India's Highest-Scoring Skipper Across Formats

Team India leader Virat Kohli has surpassed the former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni to become the all time leading run-scoring captain for India across formats. Kohli has achieved this feat during the third and final ODI of the India-Australia series in Bengaluru. The top-notch batsman scored a brilliant half-century and played a crucial knock of 89 runs–to help India win the match and the series by 2-1. Besides, Kohli also became the fastest captain to score 5,000 ODI runs surpassing MS Dhoni in this process.

Kohli took a total of 82 ODI innings to amass 5000 runs as captain. The previous best was Dhoni’s 127 innings. Captain Kohli has scored a total of 11,208 runs as a captain. Dhoni is second on the list with 11,207 runs. Mohammed Azharuddin is third on the list with 8,095 runs as a captain followed by Sourav Ganguly with 7,643 runs.

Virat Kohli Bags Man of the Series Award:

Captain Kohli broke multiple records after scoring 89 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He became the fastest captain in ODI history to score 5000 runs. He also became the Indian captain with the most number of ODI runs. Kohli is now third on the list with 10 Man of the Series awards and is only behind Sanath Jayasuriya and Sachin Tendulkar when it comes to the impressive list.

Moreover, India beat Australia in the third ODI of the three match series to win the series 2-1. Batting first, Australia scored 286 runs in the first innings. India chased the total in 47.3 overs with seven wickets in hand courtesy Rohit Sharma’s brilliant century.
