Team India are currently gearing up for the historic day-night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata starting from November 22 (Friday). The Virat Kohli-led side is currently 1-0 ahead in the series and will be keen to inflict a whitewash over the Bangla Tigers. Ahead of the exciting encounter, the India skipper has identified the biggest challenge with the pink ball.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly made the impossible possible of hosting a day-night Test after getting Virat Kohli and Bangladesh Cricket Board on the same page. The top-ranked Test side had earlier stepped back from playing a day-night Test in Australia citing inadequate time for practice. But this time around the management looked upbeat about the prospect and had a good few training sessions going into the game.

Virat Kohli identifies the biggest problem

While everyone has expressed their apprehensions about the pink ball, Virat Kohli seems to enjoy the new challenge. But the talismanic run-scorer, who got out cheaply in the first Test feels fielding can be a bit difficult with the pink which looked a lot heavier for him. India had a poor outing in the field in the first Test with Ajinkya Rahane dropping a few catches and the side will be desperate to put out an improved effort.

“The fielding session with the pink ball was biggest challenge. People will be surprised how difficult fielding can be with the pink ball. The ball definitely felt heavier. I’m sure there won’t be any difference in weight but somehow it felt heavier. While taking slip catches the ball really hit the hands hard. Even while throwing from the boundary, the fielders felt they needed to put extra effort,” Kohli said.

Virat Kohli also expressed that it is a landmark moment for him to be a part of history.

“This pink ball Test match is a challenge for us. It is very exciting for us as the energy will be very high. It is a landmark occasion,” Kohli concluded.
