Virat Kohli Is At His Best When He Is Riled Up: Gautam Gambhir

In the last few years, whenever India travelled overseas, the fans have witnessed them be ruthless in their approach to the game without the matter of the result. But, surprisingly, in the ongoing tour, the Virat Kohli-led side never looked like giving their best in terms of attitude on the field or skills to match the opposition.
Expressing the same, Gautam Gambhir stated that Kohli should stop being good to New Zealand and show his aggressive character to win it for the country.
There is no denying to the fact that Kohli delivered his best performance whenever he got the tough oppositions and challenges.
The Indian skipper, himself, mentioned it many times but he tried something different against New Zealand, which didn’t work at all for the team or himself.
“From a distance, it seems Virat Kohli is in a similar situation. He was asked before the start of this tour if (he) saw it as a revenge series after losing to them in the 2019 World Cup semifinal,” Gambhir wrote in his column for the Times of India.
Back then, Kohli had said: “Even if you want to think of revenge these guys are so nice that you can’t get into that zone.”

Gambhir has advised Kohli to channelise his competitive spirit to snap out of the indifferent batting form he’s currently undergoing and help his team bounce back in the ongoing Test series in New Zealand.
“I am not sure if this part of Virat Kohli really works for him. He is at his best when he is riled up when he has a contest. Revenge may be an exaggerated thought but I am not sure of ‘nice guys’ emotion either.”
”I think Kohli is wired up to be that emotionally charged sportsperson who can play a cover drive with the calmness of a sage and then lead his troops like an animated cheerleader” Gambhir added.
