Following the Ashes series, Steve Smith took away the number one spot from Virat Kohli in ICC Test Rankings for Batsman. The failures in West Indies further dented the Indian skipper in the rankings, however, the series against South Africa gave him a perfect opportunity to make a strong comeback in the rankings chart.
Virat Kohli got 936 points:
Utilising the home conditions, he bagged as many as 37 points from the last couple of matches. His performances include a stunning unbeaten 254* to his name and also remained unbeaten in the second innings of the first Test. All those gave Virat Kohli a handsome tally of 936 points.
It means that the Indian skipper Virat Kohli is just 1 point away from Steve Smith, who got 937 points in his kitty. Following Virat Kohli at number 2, Kane Williamson is at 3rd with a difference of 58 points. The other Indian in the top 4 is Cheteshwar Pujara, who regained his form.
Ajinkya Rahane is the other, who is at 9th position while Quinton de Kock is the only batsman from South Africa to stay in the top 10 chart with 704 points. In the bowling department, Ravichandran Ashwin overtakes Vernon Philander to attain 7th rank. Besides that, Ashwin is the only spinner in the top 10. Kagiso Rabada remains second.
In all-rounder chart, Ravindra Jadeja is at 2nd spot with 414 points while Ravichandran Ashwin is at 5th with 328 points. There isn’t much rise for South Africa players in the rankings, in fact, they lost their points.
As far as the team rankings are concerned, the Indian National Cricket Team is at top of the table with 4027 points and 115 ratings. Meanwhile, South Africa were down to the third position, as they lost few points to lose their spot to New Zealand. Proteas are with 108 points while Kiwis has got 109 points.
