India captain Virat Kohli, on Tuesday, joined the cricketing world in congratulating James Anderson after the England veteran became the first pacer to take 600 Test wickets. The right-arm pacer achieved the incredible feat in the third and final Test against Pakistan in Southampton.

More than seventeen years after dismissing Zimbabwe batsman Mark Vermeulen to pick his first Test wicket, Anderson dismissed Azhar Ali on Tuesday to scalp his 600th Test wicket. The legendary pacer, who made his Test debut in May 2003, picked his 600th wicket in his 156th game.

Virat Kohli’s message for Anderson:

As soon as Anderson dismissed Azhar to create history, cricketers and fans from around the globe started congratulating him. And Virat Kohli did not take long to follow suit either. The India batting superstar, who has enjoyed several intriguing battles with Anderson on the field, took to Twitter to laud the pacer.

Admitting that Anderson is one of the best bowlers he has ever faced, Virat Kohli wrote: “Congratulations @jimmy9 for this outstanding achievement of 600 wickets. Definitey one of the best bowlers I’ve faced.”

Over the years, Virat Kohli and Anderson have locked horns on a number of times. In 2014 when India toured England, Anderson had made life tough for the India batsman. Anderson had dismissed Virat Kohli four times as the latter managed to score just 134 runs in 10 innings.

But Virat Kohli buried the ghost of the 2014 tour when he visited England in 2018 by smashing 593 runs. Both the stars are likely to lock horns against each next year when England tour India in February. BCCI president Sourav Ganguly recently confirmed that England will tour India in February 2021.

At present, Virat Kohli is in UAE for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The thirteenth edition of the IPL is scheduled to be played from September 19 to November 10.
