India skipper Virat Kohli is knocking at the door of another T20I record. The India talisman batsman is all set to become the fastest to 2000 T20I runs.
Kohli has scored 1983 runs in 57 innings in the shortest format of the game. Thus, the right-hander is 17 runs away from the 2000 T20I runs.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli’s Royal Challenger teammate Brendon McCullum is currently the fastest to the landmark. The former New Zealand skipper had reached the milestone in just 66 innings. The right-hander went on to score 2140 runs in 71 matches in the shortest format of the game.
Furthermore, another Kiwi batsman makes it to the elite list. Blackcaps opener, Martin Guptill had reached the landmark of 2000 T20I runs in just 68 runs. The current Kiwi opener has scored 2271 runs in the 75 T20I matches.
Thus, Virat Kohli will become the third batsman to reach the milestone of 2000 runs in the shortest format.
Virat Kohli has scored his runs at a staggering average of 50.85. In fact, the Indian skipper is the only batsman to have an average of more than 50 in all the three formats of the game.
Therefore, his records speak volume about his consistency in all the three formats. Furthermore, Virat Kohli will like to lead from the front in the two-match T20I series against Ireland.
India will like to get the much-needed confidence under their belt before the pivotal England tour.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni will also achieve a special feat in his illustrious career. Dhoni has thus far played 497 International matches. Thus, the former Indian skipper will become the third Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to play 500 International fixtures.
Thus, two major records will be up for grab for India’s two best batsmen.
