Virat Kohli Leapfrogs Jacques Kallis To Scale Massive Record in Cuttack

Team India skipper Virat Kohli achieved a massive milestone as the host eclipsed a steep target set by West Indies to win the series 2-1 at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. The Men in Blues chased 315runs with four wickets in hand and eight balls to spare to win 2-1 after going 0-1 down in the three-match series. The openers set up the tone with Kohli leading the chase before Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur gave a perfect end to the six-hour spectacle.
Batting first, West Indies posted 315 runs in their quota of 50 overs – their second 300+ score in the series. Evin Lewis and Shai Hope gave a steady start adding 57 runs for the first wicket before Nicholas Pooran, and skipper Kieron Pollard took over the baton. The Caribbeans have produced complete revamped batting performance which lifted their confidence throughout the series. Pooran and Pollard added 135 runs for the third wicket to help West Indies register a staggering total.

While many thought it would be a tough chase but the Indian batters scripted the run chase o perfection. KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma added 122 runs for the first wicket to set the platform before Virat Kohli utilised the start to great effect. Kohli looked in delicate touch as he pierced the gaps to find the boundaries. Kohli scored 85 runs from 81 balls including nine boundaries but failed to take his side home.

India had the belief until Virat Kohli stayed in, but his departure at the start of 47th over sent a bit of a tremor among the fans which fizzled out in a matter of seconds. But Shardul Thakur walked in the middle after having a chat with the skipper and scored a quickfire 17 off six balls to take India home alongside Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 39 off 31 deliveries to stage another series win.

Alongside the host, skipper Virat Kohli also achieved a personal milestone with his 85 runs knock. He leapfrogged South African great Jacques Kallis to become the seventh-highest run-scorer in ODI history. The Indian skipper now stands 6717 runs behind the table-topper Sachi Tendulkar. Kohli also amassed 2455 runs across all formats to finish as the leading run-scorer in 2019 calendar year.
