Two of the best batsmen of the contemporary era, who can be highlighted in the years to come as the Era of the fabulous 5, are being compared on almost a daily basis. The latest to join the bandwagon is the legendary cricketer from Pakistan Shoaib Akhtar, who felt that the duo has been brilliant in their own ways.
Steve Smith is a typical Aussie player who does the talking with the bat. He doesn’t hesitate to sledge and hinders the confidence of the opposition, especially when they are playing down under. To back his words, his bat does the talking as well. He averages more than 60 at the moment in tests and recently added quite a few achievements in his kitty.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli is similar when it comes to actions. He gives back what he gets with quite an additional amount. He is bold enough to tackle aggressive opposition. Virat Kohli averages above 50 currently in all formats. Besides that, he plays like an example for the youngster with his sheer class while tackling the best bowling attacks.
Virat Kohli is a complete package – Shoaib Akhtar
Meanwhile, Shoaib Akhtar highlighted the point of consistency while comparing them. He showered words of praise on Virat Kohli for his splendid run from 2011. Further, he highlighted the approach of Virat Kohli towards the game. Meanwhile, for Steve Smith, Shoaib Akhtar wants him to continue in the same way for a long period. However, he lauded the efforts with the bat in the ongoing Ashes series.
“Kohli’s stat speak for himself. But Smith is a very big player and hope he can sustain it for long. But over the past nine years, Kohli’s determination and will to succeed has taken him far. He is a stylish and charismatic player and forms a complete package,” Shoaib Akhtar said in a video posted on Youtube.
But if Smith continues with this form for the next three years, he will be the greatest. And the manner in which he guided Australia to a Test victory in Birmingham was awe-inspiring,” said Akhtar.
