There is a reason why Virat Kohli is widely regarded as one of the best cricketers of this generation. As a batsman and captain, he has already engraved his name as one of the greatest to take the field. But what makes the Indian captain one of the greatest is how he fields and the standards of fielding he has set for himself and his boys. And after a below-par performance with regards to fielding in an otherwise victorious start to the tour of New Zealand, Kohli has asked his team to buckle up and field better.

The Men in Blue clinched the T20I trophy by a margin of 5-0. In all five games; however, the fielding from either side weren’t up to the mark. And limited-overs cricket requires putting in rigorous efforts in the park. Ahead of the ODI series starting from Wednesday, the 31-year old has urged his team to put on a better show than in T20s.
Virat Kohli cited the average age as being 27 approximately and is the reason why their side must put a better effort than they did in the shortest format.
The Delhi batsman further said understandably it could happen in the T20 cricket since it is quite fast-paced and that in pressure situations fielders can falter.
“We definitely have recognized it as something that, if you look at the average age of this team, it’s 27 max. So we should be fielding way better than what we have. I think the standards of fielding overall were not that good from either side. T20 cricket it can happen because the game is so fast-paced. So once you get into a nervous zone, it’s very difficult to get out of it. It’s moving so quickly and the ball keeps coming to you.” Kohli said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
Virat Kohli wants his team to stay grounded and not take anything for granted:
At the same time, the Indian captain admitted that while one cannot expect immediate results, they can’t take anything for granted. He also conceded that he is delighted to understand that this outfit is marching in the right direction and they will take measures to rectify the problems.
“With fielding it’s not a matter of execution or result immediately. Things can be taken for granted. That’s something that we want to stay away from. The team’s heading in the right direction, whatever is lacking we need to be able to correct and move forward.” Kohli concluded.
