Virat Kohli Recommended For Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award

Virat Kohli has been recommended for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award and becomes the third Indian cricketer after Sachin Tendulkar (1997) and MS Dhoni (2007) to receive this.

However, Indian skipper, Virat Kohli is going to receive this year’s Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award.

This award is India’s highest honor in sports. Moreover, the awards committee has recommended his name to the Sports Ministry. Kohli will the third cricketer from Indian team to receive the honor after Sachin Tendulkar in 1997 and MS Dhoni in 2007.

Virat Kohli will receive the award given by the Indian government to recognize his achievements in sport. Furthermore, Indian weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and badminton player Kidambi Srikanth will also receive the honor.

Virat Kohli has recognized for his record-breaking feats as a batsman across all formats. He has helped the Indian cricket team to take them in the No 1 in Tests and ODIs. However, India is currently standing in the second position on the table. In the month of April, the BCCI had recommended Kohli’s name for the Khel Ratna.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has nominated Virat Kohli for the Khel Ratna for the past three years but in 2016. However, it was given to Sakshi Malik, P.V. Sindhu and Deepa Karmakar for their good show at the Rio Olympic Games.

The 29 year-old, Virat Kohli is ranking at number 1 in Tests as well as ODIs. He became the most successful batsman in Tests this year scoring 879 runs from eight games and fourth-highest in ODIs with 749 runs from nine games. He is the member of the 2011 ICC World Cup and the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy-winning teams. Kohli also led the team to the finals of the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy.
