Ahead of the Asia Cup-opener, veteran wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni was seen helping out his compatriots during a net session.

Time and again, one or another player has revealed how MS Dhoni has guided him on or off the field. Whether it is skipper Virat Kohli seeking suggestions from his predecessor or young spinners like Yuzvendra Chahal or Kuldeep Yadav taking guidance from the World Cup-winning skipper, Dhoni has never shied away from taking additional responsibility on the field.

And the former India skipper was seen in a similar role during a net session in Dubai ahead of the team’s first Asia Cup game. With India head coach Ravi Shastri not present in the nets, the youngsters approached Dhoni and he did not hesitate in extending a helping hand. Dhoni was seen giving suggestions to the the likes of Mayank Markande, Siddharth Kaul and Prasidh Krishna.

The three bowlers along with Shahbaz Nadeem and Avesh Khan have gone to Dubai to help India prepare well for the competition.

Meanwhile, Dhoni will have to play a big role on the field if India are looking to defend their Asia Cup title. With Virat Kohli rested, Dhoni’s responsibility will increase manifold. It was under his captaincy only that India won the last Asia Cup in 2016. Rohit Sharma, India’s stand-in captain, will be looking to seek some tips from his senior teammate.

Dhoni will also be desperate to get some runs after a subpar tour of England.
