Virat Kohli has scaled a plethora of roadblocks during his 12-year-old International career, and he has done that with disdain.
Kohli encountered the biggest roadblock of his career during the 2014 summer where he struggled against the moving Dukes ball and its best exponents in the form of James Anderson and Stuart Broad in the five-match Test series.
The Indian superstar managed just 134 runs across 10 innings and question marks soon began to galore on the right-hander’s ability to handle the moving ball.
Determined to iron out his flaws, the Indian superstar sought the advice from Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and current coach Ravi Shastri.
Hailing 2014 as a milestone of his career, Virat Kohli, during an interaction with Test opener Mayank Agarwal, spilled the beans as to how Tendulkar’s advice and his hard work led to him slaying his technical errors.
“2014 is always going to be a milestone in my career. People often take good tours are milestones but for me that 2014 tour to England is the milestone in my career,” Kohli said while speaking to Mayank Agarwal in a video shared on BCCI.TV.

Virat Kohli reveals what Sachin Tendulkar advised him post the 2014 England tour
While his hip position was one area where Virat Kohli wanted to work on, the current captain revealed that Sachin Tendulkar’s advice of having a forward-press against the fast bowlers, aligned the stars beautifully for the 31-year-old.
“When I came back I spoke to Sachin paaji and did a few sessions with him in Mumbai. Ravi bhai too had called me and Shikhar to his room as he also wanted to have a word with him on something and we had practice session as well,” the Indian captain added.
“I told him that I was working on my hip position but then he made realise the importance of a big stride, the forward press against fast bowlers as well. The moment I started doing that with my hip alignment, things started ironing out pretty nicely. I became more and more confident and following that pattern, the Australia tour happened”, Kohli revaled.
And, the rest, as they say, is history. A few months later, Virat Kohli went to Australia and smashed four hundreds in a series. He also went on to slay his 2014 demons against England in the 2018 tour where he emerged as the leading run-scorer [593 runs in 10 innings with two hundred] in the series.
