Team India skipper and batting mainstay Virat Kohli has been on the record-breaking spree in the 2017 calendar year which has subsequently marked to an end owing to the impressive form he has been in the traditional format.

Pertinently, Kohli is averaging over 50 across formats which have set an example in the modern-day cricket.

The 29-year-old right-handed batsman Kohli has been in rollicking form – to score runs at will from time and time again.

After Kohli started off the three-match Test series with a duck at iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata when Suranga Lakmal bowled a devastating spell to strangulate the hosts, the former returned with a bang.

In Nagpur, Kohli smashed a double-hundred before registering another double century at the home ground.

Interestingly, Kohli joined the club of veterans who has scored most number of runs in a Test series after being dismissed on a nought in the series opener.

However, Kohli felt 16-run short- to top the charts of the most runs who had amassed bulk of runs after returning to pavilion on nought.

In five innings in 2017, of the three-match Test series against Sri Lanka, Kohli amassed 610 runs to play an integral part in the home series against sub-par Lions bowling attack.

In 2004-05, the former South African is topping the list with 625 runs. The right-handed batsman Kallis achieved the feat in 10 innings.

Former England skipper Michael Vaughan achieved the milestone against India in 2002 when he scored 615 runs in seven innings.

In the list of three, Kohli has batted fever innings (five) to accumulate most number of runs.

Owing to the remarkable-run, Kohli (2818) fell 50-run short of former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara most runs of all-time in a calendar year.

The gloveman Sangakkara (2868) achieved the milestone in 2014 across formats.

On the other side, in 2005, Ricky Ponting smashed 2833 runs in a calendar year across formats.

Interesting, in 2016, Kohli scored 2596 runs across formats in a calendar year which shows he has grown from strength to strength.

Kohli is 25-run away to reach the 5,000 runs in the longer version of the game. Kohli played 62 Test in which he amassed 4975 at an average of 51.82. He smashed 19-hundred and 14 fifties. Kohli has also smashed six double hundreds in the Test format.
