Team India skipper Virat Kohli is all set to receive the prestigious Polly Umrigar award. The felicitation will take place during the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) annual awards. This is the fifth time Virat Kohli will receive the award. Meanwhile, Sachin Tendulkar bagged the same award on two occasions.

Moreover, the awards will be held on June 12 in Bengaluru. Kohli will be honoured for his fine form in the season of 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Meanwhile, Indian women players will also make their debut at the annual awards of the Indian board.

Women’s team Twenty20 International skipper Harmanpreet Kaur will receive the award for being the Best International Women Cricketer for the 2016-17 season.

So much so, Indian southpaw opener Smriti Mandhana will receive the same award for the 2017-18 season.

Consequently, Indian board honours the top International and domestic players in the season.

In order to honour one of its finest administrators Jagmohan Dalmiya, BCCI has dedicated four awards to late former board’s president.

Subsequently, the Jagmohan Dalmiya Trophy will be awarded to the highest wicket-taker and highest run-getter in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy.

Meanwhile, two awards will also be presented to the Best Junior and Senior Women Cricketers.

The BCCI has also increased the prize money in the nine categories from INR 1 lakh to 1.5 lakh respectively.

Mr. Vinod Rai, Chairman, CoA, said as quoted by BCCI site, “I congratulate all the winners of the BCCI Annual Awards. The last two years have been fabulous for Indian Cricket with both the men and women’s teams doing very well. We are proud of their achievements and this is our small way of acknowledging their on-field efforts.”

BCCI Acting President, Mr CK Khanna said, “The BCCI Annual Awards is an occasion where former greats of the game. The present generation and the stars of tomorrow come under one roof. For BCCI, it is an opportunity to show its gratitude towards cricketers who enrich this game with their skills and hard work.”

Late Mr Pankaj Roy will receive the Col. C.K Nayudu Lifetime award.

Interestingly, Krunal Pandya is set to receive the Lala Amarnath award owing to the best Best all-rounder in the domestic circuit.

Mr. Rahul Johri, CEO, BCCI said, “Every year we have champion players delivering champion performances. Awards help boost a player’s confidence and we only hope that we get more noteworthy performances in the season to follow.”
