India skipper Virat Kohli might undergo the mandatory yo-yo test in order to prove his fitness for the upcoming full-fledged series against West Indies.

As per a report in Navbharat Times, Kohli might take the test on September 28. The outcome of the fitness test will decide his availability for the series against the Caribbean outfit. Kohli is undoubtedly one of the fittest players in the world at the moment. However, the 29-year old has suffered several injury setbacks this year, most recently a back injury during the Test series in England.

Kohli, meanwhile, is currently enjoying some time away from the field. After a long tour of United Kingdom where he played in each game, the selectors rested him for the ongoing Asia Cup.

His absence, however, has not affected India much as they have already sealed a spot in the final.

Yo-yo test is a mandatory test which all the players have to clear in order to make it to the national teams. Recently, the likes of Sanju Samson, Ambati Rayudu and Mohammed Shami lost their places in different national teams after failing to clear the test. India’s limited-overs vice captain Rohit Sharma also had to undergo the test on his return to the team.  He cleared the test and flew with the other members of the team to UK for the limited-overs series against Ireland and England.

Meanwhile, India will host West Indies in October this year, taking on the visitors in two Tests, five One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals.

The series will start with the Tests just six days after the completion of the Asia Cup.

The seven-week series will start with Rajkot hosting the first Test on October 4. The full-fledged series will end with the third T20 in Chennai on November 11.
