Virat Kohli has impinged himself as one of the greatest batsmen of all times and he has done that through sheer hard work, relentless grit to be the best in the world and insatiable desire to score runs, runs and more runs.
Another thing that Virat has done which has led to him become the best version of himself is his relentless drive to be the fittest athlete on the planet. Kohli’s body transformation and the way he has set a benchmark as far as fitness is concerned, is well documented.
But according to the Indian captain, he can’t take the credit alone for his body transformation. Speaking to Team India’s Football captain Sunil Chhetri, Virat Kohli revealed that former mental and health-conditioning coach Shankar Basu has played a huge role behind his transformation.
“It (fitness and training) is everything for me. The biggest transition in my career came in 2015 because of Mr. Shanker Basu. I would not take credit for it, for me the biggest factor for my career going in another template has to be him,” Virat Kohli told Sunil Chhetri.

“He (Basu) was a trainer at RCB, he introduced me to lifting. I was a bit hesitant; I had some back issues; it was a totally new concept for me. But within three weeks I was amazed at the results that followed,” Kohli said.
He added: “After that, he worked with me on my diet, I started paying attention to what was happening with my body, that’s when I realised that because of my genes, I have to work twice or thrice on my body, I am doing the basic thing which my career requires me to do.”
Kohli is an epitome of relentlessness towards fitness. And, the Indian captain once again asserted that he will continue to be a ‘maniac’ till the time he is playing for the country.
“Till the time I am playing the sport, I will be a maniac, if you are playing for the country, you have to work hard, if you cannot do that, then you should step away,” Kohli asserted.
