While India skipper Virat Kohli has maintained his silence after being targeted by Mitchell Johnson, England star Ben Stokes has hit back at the former Australia pacer after the latter ridiculed ridiculing England’s decision to ban handshakes and bringing up his Bristol street fight. Before leaving for the tour of Sri Lanka, England captain Joe Root announced that the players would ditch the traditional handshakes and would instead do fist bumps in the wake of coronavirus outbreak.

However, Mitchell Johnson, who had also mocked Virat Kohli for his comments in New Zealand, was not impressed with England’s decision and did not stop himself from mocking his old rivals. He took to Instagram to take a swipe at England and Ben Stokes, writing:

“Is this a p*** take? You can jam your fist pump England hahahaha just be careful though, Stokesy might react with a sucker punch.”

The sucker punch mention appeared to recall the incident in 2017 when Ben Stokes was arrested outside a bar at 2.30am. He was later cleared of affray but fined £30,000 by the ECB before being acquitted by the court.

Well, Ben Stokes did not waste any time in hitting back at his old rival. As soon as he landed in Sri Lanka, he tweeted his version of an old Barmy Army song that Mitchell Johnson admits used to get inside his head. Ben Stokes took to Twitter to take a shot at Mitchell Johnson, writing: “Bowls to the left bowls to the right I wonder if big bad Mitch likes Marmite.”

Ben Stokes was referring to the famous Barmy Army chant that was widely sung during Johnson’s disastrous 2009 Ashes series to make fun of his erratic bowling.

Meanwhile, England will play two Tests in Sri Lanka and would be looking to continue their winning run after the impressive 3-1 triumph in South Africa. The last time they had visited Sri Lanka, they had won the series 3-0.
