The recently-concluded Test match in Perth didn’t lack fire. The skippers of both the sides – Virat Kohli and Tim Paine were at loggerhead and had a go at each other. Paine though didn’t take the verbal volleys off the court and tried to play down the scene. However, he insisted he won’t sit back and be ‘walked all over’ if something similar takes place in the coming games.

Tim Paine’s Australia breaks the shackles

Australia secured a comfortable 146-run win to level the series. Paine said both the teams were desperate to get the upper hand and that it was all part of the game. The umpires had to intervene at one point, as Paine and Kohli exchanged a few words during play on day four.

“I don’t think we did touch, to be honest. It got pretty close. It was a highly competitive Test match from both teams. There’s a lot on the line, and both teams desperately want to win, and sometimes that stuff happens,” Paine said in the post-match press conference.

The hosts’ skipper also went on to say he enjoys watching Kohli play. According to him, Virat Kohli brings a lot to the game and the competitive spirit is always there to be seen.

“Love it. I enjoy watching Kohli, I always have. I think he brings out the competitive spirit in a lot of people which is great, and I’m sure it was great to watch,” he added.

Australia didn’t let India breathe on the final day, as the bowlers wrapped up the tail in no time. Spinner Nathan Lyon finished the game with eight wickets; quite an irony considering India didn’t go with a spinner.

“I was really proud of the way our team conducted themselves on the field this week. We definitely will (the Indian team for a beer) after the series. That’s always been the thing that has happened and will always be the case.” Paine said.
