Virat Kohli will be eyeing his first IPL trophy when he leads Royal Challengers Bangalore in next year’s tournament. The India skipper has been with the franchise since the inception of the IPL in 2008 but is yet to lay his hands on the coveted trophy. Overall, he has made it to the IPL final thrice with Royal Challengers Bangalore but ended up on the wrong side of the result on each occasion.

He took charge of the team in 2013 after the retirement of Daniel Vettori but has not managed to change the fortunes of the team. Royal Challengers Bangalore are still one of the only three teams who have not won the IPL even once. In fact, the Bangalore-based outfit is one of the most inconsistent teams in the league in the last few years. Ever since Kohli took charge, they made it to the playoffs just once when in 2016 their skipper scored nearly 1,000 runs and led the team to the final.

The Bangalore-based outfit has formed a formidable squad once again for the next season. After releasing 12 players as well as changing the backroom staff, the three-time finalists have roped in some fine players. They have secured the services of Australia’s ODI and T20I skipper Aaron Finch to bolster their top-order which looked shaky last season.

Joshua Philippe and Shahbaz Ahmed are the two other new batting options. Royal Challengers’ top buy was allrounder Chris Morris for whom they went all out and spent a staggering amount of INR 10 crore. They also signed up South Africa’s Dale Steyn, Sri Lanka’s Isuru Udana, Australia’s Kane Richardson and domestic cricketer Pavan Deshpande.

Virat Kohli on the squad:

Virat Kohli is delighted with the squad for the next season. The Royal Challengers skipper said he is excited with the new players that the team has roped in. Virat Kohli believes that the outfit can finally turn the table in the 2020 season and go the distance.

“I am very happy with the players that we have selected and really looking forward to the new season. We’ve had a lot of discussions on the structure and balance of the team and this looks like a good start for us. I believe it all comes down to every individual to give out their best performance during the league and to enjoy the best form of cricket by playing bold,” he said.
