Indian captain Virat Kohli would be one of the players the most under focus when the men in blue take the field against Australia for the first time in about nine months. India kickstarts their almost two-month-long tour of Australia on Friday in Sydney in the first of the three ODIs. With Virat Kohli needing to set the tone for the tourists for the rest of the tour, he looked in good nick in the nets to do so.

At the nets, Virat Kohli was seen playing in a video posted by BCCI, some powerful shots dancing down the ground, off the backfoot, and some finesse ones too. All of them went sweetly off the bat as the 32-year old will look to stamp his authority against the arch-rivals. Kohli has already been in the news for the past few weeks for his decision to miss three out of four Tests that will follow the white-ball games.

The Indian skipper’s decision has come in the wake of needing to be beside his wife for the impending birth of his first child. Meanwhile, India also face questions concerning their line-up ahead of the first ODI. The absence of Rohit Sharma has opened up a massive hole in the top-order; however, there are competent players to replace him without doubts. Minor concerns also remain regarding Virat Kohli, who only had one fifty across three formats in New Zealand as the hosts swept them in ODIs and Tests.

However, the Delhi batsman will fancy his chances against Australia, who are one of his favourite opponents. Kohli averages a healthy 54.57 in 40 matches against Australia with 1910 runs alongside eight centuries and eight fifties. It is also worth noting that India not only won their last ODI series against the men in yellow in India but also on their home turf. Hence, Australia, despite playing at full-strength and home, could underestimate a wounded India on their peril.
