All eyes are on the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup this year which is scheduled to take place in Australia. The way things are unfolding at the moment due to the coronavirus pandemic, there are apprehensions over whether the tournament will go ahead or not as scheduled.

On Tuesday, Cricket Australia and the ICC assured that the tournament is still on and would take place as scheduled. As of now, one can only hope that things improve in the coming days and the much-awaited T20 World Cup is not affected by the pandemic.

Only time will tell how things pan out in October. But ahead of the competition, former India opener Virender Sehwag was asked to pick a side who are the favourites. In reply, the legendary batsman refused to pick a favourite but subtly hinted that India could go all the way due to the return of Hardik Pandya.

Virender Sehwag believes that the allrounder’s return could change the dimension of the Indian team. Pandya, who last played in the T20 series against South Africa in September last year, missed six months of cricket due to a back injury for which he needed surgery.

“In T20s, one cannot predict favourites. Such is the unpredictable nature of the format, any single player can change the complexion of the game on a given day,” he said. “The return of Hardik Pandya will make a huge difference to the Indian team. The whole combination will change with an all-rounder of the calibre of Hardik.”
