Former Pakistan seamer Wasim Akram has opined on his choice to take over the national team’s Test captaincy. On the 11th of November, the Pakistan Cricket Board will most likely announce the replacement of Azhar Ali for their tour of New Zealand as the veteran has not produced the desired results. According to Wasim Akram, Babar Azam should take charge.
Babar Azam already captains the white-ball teams and is their best batsman in both the forms. The 25-year old began his stint as the T20I captain last year against Australia while his tenure as ODI skipper commenced against Zimbabwe quite recently. At present, the men in green are playing Zimbabwe after which they will travel to New Zealand to participate in two Tests and three T20Is.
“You ask me as a former player, yes, I back Babar to become Test captain because he is our future and he can continue for a long time. If the PCB appoints him, they should for a proper time so that at least there is no confusion as to who is in charge in the dressing room. I back Babar because I don’t want to see those days when I was playing and there were around four to five captains in our dressing room,” Akram told in the Youtube channel Cricket Baaz.
“Aren’t Virat Kohli or Kane Williamson also captains and top batsmen” : Wasim Akram

The 54-year old believes that giving him captaincy will not affect his batting as players all over the world have taken charge and playing well enough. Akram took the example of Virat Kohli and Kane Williamson, who are not only excellent leaders but also magnificent batsmen.
“He is our best player and people who say that making him Test captain will affect his batting, don’t buy that because he is a batsman and it is his job to score runs. “Aren’t Virat Kohli or Kane Williamson also captains and top batsmen,” he added.
