Wasim Jaffer, Kings XI Punjab batting coach, has given an update on when the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle will feature in IPL 2020.

With KXIP opening duo of KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal ruling the roost, Chris Gayle hasn’t been able to break in the playing 11 but considering the fact that the likes James Neesham, Glenn Maxwell have underwhelmed with their performances thus far, calls have grown louder for the team-management to include Gayle in the starting XI.

Wasim Jaffer, in an interview with PTI, has said that fans will soon see the duo of Chris Gayle and Mujeeb Ur Rahman featuring in the playing 11.

“It should happen soon. As I said, it needs to happen sooner than later. We don’t want to bring them when every game is a must-win game. Hopefully, we will have those guys featuring soon,” Jaffer told news agency PTI from Dubai.

When asked about the shape that Chris Gayle is in currently, when it comes to his fitness, Wasin Jaffer said that the ‘Universe Boss’ is very much ready to get in the park.

“Chris looks very much ready and is keen to get on to the park, he has been training really well and has looked really good in the nets,” Wasim Jaffer said.

Jaffer added that Gayle is looking hungry and that is a good sign for the franchise.

“He is such an impact player, we all know what he can do. I hope he turns up and turns it on straightaway and changes the tide for all of us. He looks hungry and that is a very good sign for the franchise,” he added.

“I am hoping he plays quickly. We need match-winners, as many as possible. Not just for the next game, also for the rest of the tournament as he can easily win you four-five games on his own,” he further said.

When asked whether Gayle’s inclusion will affect the balance of the side, Jaffer said-

“KL (Rahul) and Mayank (Agarwal) has done most of the work so far (in batting). Pooran has been batting really well. Karun (Nair) had couple of chances, he didn’t do well so Mandeep (Singh) has come in.” he signed off.
