Kashvee Gautam, a 16-year-old medium-pacer from Chandigarh, created history on Tuesday by becoming the first Indian woman cricketer to take 10 wickets in an innings in a BCCI domestic tournament. She also took a hat-trick which picking up all ten wickets in the innings.

In her previous match against Jammu and Kashmir, she returned with a seven-wicket haul. The youngster achieved the feat against Arunachal Pradesh in the BCCI Women’s U19 one- day tournament at Kadapa, Andhra Pradesh. Kashvee Gautam impressed with the bat too, scoring 49 runs during the memorable game for her.

Defending a modest total of 186, Chandigarh bundled Arunachal Pradesh out for a meagre 25 runs to register a thumping 161-run victory. Kashvee Gautam has been in red-hot form for Chandigarh. The teenager has bagged 63 wickets so far this season. With 31 scalps in nine matches, including four five-wicket hauls, she is the leading wicket-taker in the women’s U23 One-day trophy.

“I still can’t believe it has happened. All I wanted was to bowl in the right area and take wickets. Bowling at the same spot consistently helped me take all these wickets. The pitch was helping seam bowlers a bit and the ball was swinging. It was only when my team-mates talked about 10 wickets after my eighth that I thought about the feat,” Kashvee told The Indian Express.

Kashvee Gautam’s journey in the game started at an early age of six when she was first given a bat by her aunt. But it was not till the age of 13 that Kashvee joined formal training under coach Nagesh Gupta at Government Model Senior Secondary School. Gupta, who is now the U23 coach of the Chandigarh women’s team, noticed her ability to swing the ball and spent hours on her action and wrist movement apart from making Kashvee bowl at the same spot.

Kashvee Gautam soon started making progress and represented Punjab at the U14, U16 and U19 levels before making switch to Chandigarh this season.
