The India National Cricket Team scored a mere 126 for seven in the Vizag T20I against Australia. What hurts them was the failure of their middle-order, which is happening more often than not. Even during the New Zealand series, India faced a familiar situation once in ODIs and the T20Is. Meanwhile, on Sunday, no middle-order player stood tall, including the young prodigy, Rishabh Pant. The left-handed batsman not only scored runs, but his manner of dismissal left everyone disappointed.

A mix-up cost Pant, India in Vizag T20I

Australia captain Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bowl first in Vizag T20I. India, who made a couple of changes – giving Mayank Markande his debut cap and recalling KL Rahul to the XI; lost Rohit Sharma early on. The pair of Rahul and captain Virat Kohli then began the rescue work. Both added 55 runs for the second wicket before Adam Zampa had the skipper packing. Then, at number four, walked down Rishabh Pant.

Of late, the southpaw had been given an extended run in the limited-overs cricket. Meanwhile, in Vizag, he didn’t get going. Though he owns a reputation of scoring from the word go, Pant found himself in a horrible mix-up in the middle with Rahul. It was during the 10th over, when D’Arcy Short, the part-timer kept the last ball of the over wide off Pant; who came down and stretched his arms to put bat to ball.

Despite finding a fielder at point, Pant thought of completing a single, to which Rahul didn’t respond much. As a result, Pant couldn’t reach on time and thus got out on three off five balls. Moreover, India didn’t finish well despite scoring well in the PP overs. In 20 overs, the hosts scored 126 for seven.
