For years, AB de Villiers and Dale Steyn entertained cricket fans all over the world while playing for South Africa. The two were two of the most important players for the Proteas over the years as South Africa dominated across formats. While AB de Villiers was the batting mainstay for the team, Steyn was in charge of the bowling department and both played their parts to perfection.
At the same time, the fans have always enjoyed whenever the two have faced each other in franchise cricket. Who can forget their epic duels in the IPL when a clueless Steyn was seeing clapping after being taken to the cleaners by his compatriot. Well, both the players were up against each other recently in the Mzansi Premier League and once again managed to entertain the fans.
But unlike the previous encounters, the latest one did not see a high class duel between the bat and the ball. Instead, the two made everyone laugh with a banter in the middle of the pitch during the 22nd match of the competition between Cape Town Blitz and Tshwane Spartans in Cape Town. The incident happened on the third delivery of the 14th over when de Villiers hit a Steyn delivery back to him.
Steyn failed to collect the ball cleanly and then left everyone in splits with his action after that. De Villiers picked the ball and threw it back to Steyn. But instead of turning back and going to his bowling mark, Steyn hilariously threw the ball at the stumps and appealed for a run out.
Here is a clip of that hilarious moment:
Talking about the match, Steyn’s Blitz defeated de Villiers’ Spartans by 15 runs. Chasing a 158-run target, Spartans were restricted to 142/7 in 20 overs. With bowling figures of 4-0-10-3, Steyn was the pick of the bowlers for his team. It was Steyn who dismissed de Villiers (31) in the 14th over itself.
