Watch: Asghar Afghan Mocks Shahid Afridi After The Latter Was Dismissed For A Duck

Afghanistan skipper Asghar Afghan mocked former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi after the latter’s dismissal during an Afghanistan Premier League game.

The Afghanistan-Pakistan rivalry on the cricket field is perhaps not as celebrated as India-Pakistan rivalry, England-Australia rivalry or any other famous one. However, things are fast changing at the moment. Afghanistan’s journey in the game began with the help of Pakistan Cricket Board. The PCB allowed several players from Afghanistan to train at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. Pakistan was also the first Full Member to play an ODI against Afghanistan.

However, politics has fast changed that relation into a bitter rivalry. Both the teams are now growing apart due to political tension. A devastating bomb blast in Kabul last year perhaps officially ended all the good relation between the two teams. Their recent encounter in the Asia Cup completely showed that tension run high whenever the two teams come face to face.

And the latest incident in the Afghanistan Premier League very much proves it. It all happened after Shahid Afridi departed for a duck while playing for Paktia Panthers against Kandahar Knights at the Sharjah Cricket Association Stadium.

In the tenth over of the innings, the hard-hitting batsman went for wild heave but only managed to sky the ball on the off side. Asghar then ran backwards and took a good catch before doing Afridi’s signature celebration to mock the Pakistan stalwart.

Here is a clip of the whole incident showing Asghar Afghan doing the Shahid Afridi celebration:

Meanwhile, the tournament is turning out to be a forgettable one for Afridi.  So far, he has managed to score 1, 19, 1*, and now 0. And with the ball, he managed to take just two wickets in the four matches he has played so far in the league this year.
