Gilchrist XI, in pursuit of 105 off ten overs, were off to a blistering start, courtesy of Adam Gilchrist and Shane Watson. However, both the openers and Brad Hodge departed in quick succession. And the dismissal of Yuvraj Singh off Bret Lee’s bowling has put them in a spot of bother.

The team captained by Gilchrist had reached 49 in less than four overs as Gilchrist lost his stumps and Shane Watson retired out. As Bret Lee steamed in, left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh lifted it to long on for six. However, Alex Blackwell pouched the ball inches within the boundary line to send back the southpaw for only 2. Lee also had clean bowled his fellow countryman Brad Hodge prior to this.

Earlier, Ponting XI accumulated 104 off their allotted ten overs on the back of breezy knocks from their skipper Ricky Ponting and Brian Lara. Yuvraj Singh, Courtney Walsh, and Andrew Symonds picked up one wicket each to restrict them to a gettable total. The result at the Junction Oval in Melbourne eventually turned out as a narrow victory for Ponting XI.

With 15 required off the final over of the innings for Gilchrist XI, Australian all-rounder Daniel Christian bowled two no-balls, including a boundary along with it in the penultimate delivery. Gilchrist XI needed five off the last ball and an overthrow culminated off the last ball that allowed Nick Riewoldt and Cameron Smith to run three. And it wasn’t enough to prevent a loss. Nevertheless, the result didn’t matter much as the match was played for a noble cause and played in good spirits.
