New Zealand opener, Colin Munro began walking towards the pavilion even without getting out during the Wellington T20I against India. Meanwhile, the hosts couldn’t have asked for a better start to the T20I series. As they got hammered in the One-Dayers (1-4); NZ looked upbeat in their pursuit of beginning well in the shortest format. In the first of the three T20Is, New Zealand batted first and scored a mammoth 219 for six, courtesy a 43-ball 84 by Tim Seifert.

What hurt the hosts during the ODIs was the failure of their top order. In none of the five games, the openers began well and laid a platform for the following batsmen to come and capitalise. As a result, they suffered throughout the ODIs and eventually lost the five-match series against India at home; for the first time in a decade.

Meanwhile, the equation was a bit different in the first T20I. The opening pair of Tim Seifert and Colin Munro began the onslaught from the word go. The left-right combination worked for New Zealand for the first time in the series. The pair didn’t spare anyone, as they whacked each of the bowlers for fours and maximums.

However, there was a strange incident during the fourth over of the Powerplay. Khaleel Ahmed, the bowler, was coming down the track to deliver the third ball. He stopped mid-way, as Colin Munro realised one of the bails have fallen; thus anticipating he had hit the wickets with the bat. Just when he showed his back to the umpire and began walking, the third umpire signalled because of the wind it has happened.

Immediately returning to the crease, Munro first put the bail to its place and then started from where he had left. In 20 overs, the hosts scored 219 for six with Colin Munro hitting 34 off 20 balls.
