Watch: Comedy Of Errors Lead To Shikhar Dhawan's Run Out

Shikhar Dhawan’s poor run in England continued as the opening batsman failed in the ongoing second T20I too. He had entered the series on the back of a good 74-run knock in the Ireland T20I. Prior to that, he had scored a stunning century in the one-off Test against Afghanistan.

However, he is yet to show that sublime form in the testing conditions of England. The southpaw could score only 4 in the first T20I in Manchester. His poor form continued in the ongoing game too as he returned to the pavilion after scoring just 10. And he only have himself to blame for his early departure. Dhawan was run-out in a bizarre fashion which could have been avoided had be been a bit more careful.

The run-out also brought an end to a series of comical incidents. It all began with Eoin Morgan being unsure of whether he had hit the stumps. And when the umpires were checking the replays, another interesting thing was noticed – Dhawan had lost his bat when he was about to enter the crease.

The India opener had tried to pull a Liam Plunkett delivery but missed it.  The ball went towards the cover and Dhawan decided to steal a single. However, Jason Roy came charging in from backward point and threw the ball towards the non-striker’s end.  Dhawan, on the other hand, was struggling with his running and then lost his bat as he tried plonking it in.

Unfortunately for Dhawan, Morgan just about had the ball in the hand when he flicked the bails off. Dhawan could have saved himself by diving but did not do so and paid the price.

Here is a clip of that run-out:
