IPL 2020 has been hit by yet another umpiring controversy after umpire Paul Reiffel surprisingly decided against calling a delivery wide during a crucial juncture of the just-concluded match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings.

With an improbable 46 runs needed from the last three overs, Rashid Khan revived  SRH’s hopes with a fine cameo. He along with Shahbaz Nadeem collected 19 runs off the 18th over bowled by Karn Sharma. The Afghanistan star hit a six and a four before Nadeem hit a four too to turn the game on its head.

The 19th over bowled by Shardul Thakur started in a fine manner too. Rashid Khan hit the first ball for a double before the CSK pacer bowled a wide. The following delivery looked like a wide too before Reiffel decided to call it a legitimate delivery.

Shardul bowled a wide yorker and replay showed that the ball was outside the tramline. But to everyone’s surprise, the umpire decided not to call it a wide. Reiffel had his hands half out as he looked set to call it a wide before deciding against it after seeing an angry MS Dhoni protesting.

SRH captain David Warner, who was sitting in the dugout, was not pleased at all with the turn of events as he was seen expressing his disappointment over the same.

Here is a clip of the incident:

As far as the match is concerned, CSK beat SRH by 20 runs to return to winning ways. Batting first, CSK posted 167 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. In reply, SRH finished on 147 for 8. The win was CSK’s third of the season. With 3 wins from eight games, the MS Dhoni-led side is currently at the sixth spot in the points table.
