Rahul Tewatia has become the talk of the town after his stunning knock for Rajasthan Royals against Kings XI Punjab on Monday. While the leg-spinning allrounder has been playing in the IPL since 2014, it would not be wrong to say that he finally marked his arrival earlier this week.

He scored a stunning fifty as Royals chased down a record 224 against the Kings XI. The left-handed batsman was promoted at number four after Steve Smith’s dismissal. At that point, the Royals needed 124 off 11 overs. The knock started on a dismal note for him.

The allrounder was struggling to play the big shots as he managed to score only eight runs in the first 19 balls he faced. With every failure of his to play a big shot, the game was drifting away from the Royals. And when a well-set Samson departed in the 17th over after scoring 85, it looked all over for the Royals.

With 51 needed from 3 overs, it did look like a lost cause for the Rajasthan-based franchise. But what followed thereafter completely shocked the entire cricket world. In the 18th over bowled by Sheldon Cottrell, the former Kings XI and Delhi Capitals allrounder hit five sixes to turn the game on its head.

He hit one more six in the 19th over before departing for 53 off 31 balls. Royals went on to win the game with three balls remaining.

When Rahul Tewatia asked to be praised:

An old video from last year’s IPL is going viral where Rahul Tewatia could be seen asking Delhi Capitals’ head coach Ricky Ponting for praise after taking four catches against Mumbai Indians. Ponting was praising all the good performers from the game and the former Delhi Capitals allrounder was surprised that the coach did not take his name.

And as soon as Ponting finished his team talk, Rahul Tewatia asked him about the same. The Australian legend, however, saw the funny side of it and told the dressing room: ‘Boys, Tewatia took four catches and wants a pat on the back’. The entire dressing room was in splits after that and spinner Axar Patel was even seen asking his former teammate: ‘Who asks for recognition, saying you have taken four catches?’
