Watch: Fan Breaches Security To Kiss Rohit Sharma On Field

Fan breaching security to get close to their heroes is becoming a regular occurrence in Indian cricket and the latest player to experience this is none other than Rohit Sharma. Plying his trade for Mumbai in the quarterfinal of the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Rohit was caught off guard while he was batting.

The incident occurred in the eleventh over of Mumbai’s innings.  The pitch invader raced from the stands to middle of the pitch  where Rohit was batting. And to everyone’s disbelief, the fan then tried to plant a kiss on Rohit’s cheeks.  First the fan touched Rohit’s feet and then hugged him and then kissed him.

Delighted after succeeding in his attempt, the fan was seen running towards the stands in a jubilant mood, jumping and shouting to celebrate his victory.

According to reports in the media, there was no media in the stadium and the fan stayed till the end of the match. A Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) official told ESPNcricinfo that five police personnel were present in the ground. However, they could not stop the fan from running onto the pitch because they were sitting behind the fans.

This is the third incident this month where a fan has invaded the pitch to get close to his favourite player. During the recent-concluded Test series between India and West Indies, fans invaded the pitch in both the games to click a selfie with India skipper Virat Kohli.

Coming to the game, Mumbai won the match by nine wickets. Rohit scored an unbeaten on 33 as his team chased down paltry 70 to reach another semifinal. Mumbai will now play Jharkhand in the semi, while Delhi will take on Haryana in the other final four encounter.
