MS Dhoni has not played competitive cricket since the completion of this year’s World Cup in July. As soon as the tournament got over, the former India skipper took a sabbatical from the game to serve the army. And he is yet to return to action. However, his long-term absence from the game has not affected his popularity at all.

The way the fans reacted after he arrived in the Indian dressing room after the conclusion of the Ranchi Test on Tuesday, it made it very clear that the fans were desperate to catch a glimpse of their beloved star. MS Dhoni attended the final day’s proceedings of the third Test between India and South Africa.

India took only 12 balls on the fourth day to wrap up the game and MS Dhoni soon walked inside the dressing room to have a talk with his teammates. BCCI posted a photo of MS Dhoni interacting with debutant Shahbaz Nadeem on Twitter and it made the fans go wild. The World Cup-winning skipper’s name started trending online as fans expressed their delight over seeing him in the dressing room.

The fans, who were attending the game, then gave a brilliant send off to MS Dhoni as he made his way out of the stadium. The fans were chanting ‘Dhoni, Dhoni’ as the legendary cricketer drove away in his brand new Jonga.

Here is a clip of MS Dhoni driving away from the stadium:

India, meanwhile, thrashed South Africa by an innings and 202 runs to sweep the three-match series. Starting the day on 132 for 8, South Africa could add only 1 run before Nadeem picked up the remaining two wickets on two balls. This is the first time, India whitewashed South Africa in a Test series. India will next take on Bangladesh next month and MS Dhoni looks set to miss that series too.
