KL Rahul had a big opportunity to seal his spot in the playing eleven for the upcoming World Cup when he came out to bat at number four in the ongoing warm-up game against New Zealand at Lord’s. Rahul came out to bat when Trent Boult dismissed both Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma cheaply. However, Rahul failed to capitalise on the opportunity and scored just 6 before becoming Boult’s third victim.

Boult bowled a back of a length delivery which Rahul ended up chopping up onto his own stumps. The right-handed batsman trued to push the ball but could only manage an inside edge as the ball went on to disturb the timbers. A furious Rahul was then seen kicking the ball in frustration before he made his way towards the dressing room.

Rahul, meanwhile, will be desperate to make his mark in the second warm-up game against Bangladesh on May 28. A failure in that game could very well make the team-management try out another player in the main event, due to start on May 30. Rahul is in fine form at the moment. After scoring two back-to-fifties in the T20 series against Australia which was his comeback series, Rahul had a stunning outing in the Indian Premier League.

The right-handed batsman finished the tournament as the second highest run-scorer. Playing for Kings XI Punjab, he slammed 593 runs. India, meanwhile, will open their World Cup campaign on June 5 against South Africa. This is Rahul’s first World Cup.
