Chris Gayle is one of those few players who rarely lose their cool on the cricket field. The veteran batsman is always seen with a smile on his face. However, the disappointment of missing out on a well-deserved century was perhaps too much even for the Universe Boss as the West Indies legend reacted furiously to it on Friday.
The Kings XI Punjab batsman missed his well-deserved century by just one run against Rajasthan Royals and did not shy away from venting his frustration. The southpaw, who also became the first batsman to hit 1,000 sixes earlier during his knock, was out on 99 off 63 balls. His stunning knock was studded with six fours and eight maximums.
However, Archer bowled a stunning yorker to castle Chris Gayle and the latter was totally furious with his dismissal. Soon after the ball hit the stumps, Gayle lost his cool and threw away his bat in anger. But he regained his composure soon and left the field with the helmet mounted on the handle of his bat.
“I’d love to have the IPL trophy under my belt, but still a long way to go. It’s an important game for us. Want to win this. I’ve been having fun out there batting with youngsters and it’s a good thing,” he added.
Riding on Gayle’s knock, KXIP finished their innings on a big total of 185 for 4. Apart from Gayle, KL Rahul played a 46-run knock while Nicholas Pooran scored 22 off 10.
