India seam-bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar played the best innings of his professional career so far in the second ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Deepak Chahar earned the man of the match for playing a blinder of a knock with the bat after taking two wickets. The 27-year old was delighted at finally getting to bat having always fielded in a 50-over game.

Deepak Chahar, India’s new-ball bowler, conceded 27 runs off his three overs. However, the right-arm seamer recovered well to take crucial wickets in his upcoming spells to finish with figures of 8-0-53-0. But still Sri Lanka ended with a competitive total of 275 in 50 overs, scoring 13 runs more than the first ODI. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the bowlers, finishing with figures of 10-1-50-3.

Deepak Chahar stated it’s an awesome feeling to win as he got to bat and play a defining role. The 27-year old underlined that before he hardly got an opportunity to bat as all he did was spend 50 overs on the field.

“Bahat badiya, Maza aa gaya, Jeet gaye hum log, Ballebaazi bhi aa gayi, Puri fielding kari thi pehle, 50 overs ki, to aaj 25 overs ki batting bhi aa gayi, bahat khush hoon, nahi to hamesha aisa hota hai ki hamesha fielding kar-kar ke chale jaate hai, batting nai aati, aaj aa gayi batting” (“Very nice, We won the game, I got to bat as well. I fielded for 50 overs today and got to bat around 25 overs today, I’m very happy. Otherwise i just field and go, I never get to bat, I got to bat today.”) Chahar told in a video uploaded by the BCCI.
