Ireland, on Tuesday, thrashed England by seven wickets in the third and final ODI to finish the three-match series on a winning note. Having conceded the series after losing the opening two games, Ireland came up with a stunning show in the third as they chased down 329 to register just their second win over England in the 50-over format.

England were looking set to inflict a whitewash on the visitors after scoring 328 thanks to an impressive century from their captain Eoin Morgan and fifties from Tom Banton and David Willey. Morgan slammed 106 off just 84 balls while Banton and Willey scored 58 and 51 respectively.

At one stage, England were comfortably placed at 190 for 3 in the 27th over thanks to the 146-stand between Morgan and Banton after the hosts were reduced to 44 for 3. However, they lost 4 wickets for just 26 runs to find themselves 7 down for 216 before Willey and Tom Curran helped them recover and post a big total.

Ireland’s stunning chase:

In reply, Ireland chased down the total with a ball to spare. Opener Paul Stirling and captain Andrew Balbirnie set the platform for the monumental win. Stirling smashed 142 off 128 balls while Balbirnie scored 113 off 112 as the two shared 214 runs for the second wicket to set Ireland on course for the impressive win.

Stirling was run out with 65 needed and Balbirnie holed out 15 runs later. However, Ireland made sure to keep things under control and went on to register a thrilling win. Kevin O’Brien and Harry Tector shared an unbeaten partnership of 50 runs and scored the eight needed off the final over.
