Perhaps for the first time in his professional career David Miller donned the wicketkeeping gloves during the second ODI between South Africa and Sri Lanka on Wednesday.  Miller took the wicketkeeping duties after regular wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock trudged off the field.  The incident at  the end of the 31st over of the Sri Lankan innings.

The fate of the game was pretty much decided with the visitors reeling at 135 for 9 while chasing 251 to draw level in the series. This is when de Kock decided to walk off the field. This was the moment when Miller, one of the finest fielders in the world, decided to try his hands at wicketkeeping.  Well, it did not take him long to make a mark. Just four deliveries after he wore the gloves, he nearly affected a stumping.

On the fourth delivery of the 32nd over bowled by leg-spinner Imran Tahir, Vishwa Fernando went for a wild heave. However, the Sri Lankan tail-ender missed to make any contact with the ball whatsoever. In the meantime, Miller collected the ball brilliantly and took the bails off in a flash. But unfortunately for Miller, Fernando was safe as the latter had his foot planted in the crease all the time.

The incident, nonetheless, soon led to a hilarious moment when South Africa skipper Faf du Plessis decided to have some fun. The Proteas star, who plays with India wicketkeeper MS Dhoni in the Indian Premier League, called Miller MSD while walking past him.

Coming to the game, the hosts battered the visitors by 113 runs to take a two nil lead. Quinton de Kock starred with the bat, scoring 94 while du Plessis scored 57 as the Proteas scored 251. The score turned out to be more than enough as the home side bowled out Sri Lanka for just 138.
