England star Ben Stokes has proved that there is nothing he cannot do on a cricket field as he came up with a scintillating performance in the just-concluded second Test against West Indies. He impressed with both bat and ball as England beat the tourists by 113 runs to draw level in the three-match series.

And as if his performances with the bat and ball were not enough, he showed his stunning commitment with a mind-boggling effort while trying to stop the ball from reaching the boundary. Ben Stokes was bowling when he chased the ball to stop it from crossing the ropes.

The stunning incident took place in the 43rd over of West Indies’ second innings. West Indies batsman Jermaine Blackwood punched Ben Stokes’ delivery down the ground towards the vacant mid-off area. The England allrounder, who was bowling from around the wickets, turned back and started the chase.

And just before the ball could cross the ropes, Ben Stokes incredibly dived to do his best. But it did not matter as the batsmen had already taken four runs by running between the wickets. What made the effort even more incredible is that Stokes had bowled seven consecutive overs before chasing the ball from the pitch till the boundary.

Here is a clip of that effort from Ben Stokes:

Meanwhile, Ben Stokes has become the top-ranked Test allrounder after his stunning performance. The 29-year-old struck scores of 176 and 78 not out and also claimed three wickets to surpass West Indies captain Jason Holder, a long-term occupier of the position, as the No 1 in the ICC’s Test rankings.

The England star, who helped his country win their first-ever World Cup and draw the Ashes series last year, has taken a 38-point lead over Holder – who had sat atop the allrounder category for 18 months.
