Rohit Sharma’s majestic knock of 83 (off 145 balls) finally came to an end thanks to a brilliant delivery from champion pacer James Anderson as England finally broke the Indian opening stand.
It all happened on the fourth ball of the 44th over when James Anderson, after bowling a series of outswingers, got one to jag back into Rohit Sharma.
It was one of those scrambled seam deliveries by James Anderson where the batter just doesn’t know which way the ball will move.
The ball came back sharply to cannon into Rohit’s stumps.
Rohit’s dismissal brought an end to what was a brilliant opening stand that saw him and KL Rahul become the first Indian opening pair to rack up a 100+ stand in SENA countries since Centurion 2010.
Once again, Rohit looked extremely disciplined during the entirety of his stay at the crease. He left the balls outside the off-stump consistently while at the same time, he did not miss out on any opportunity that the English bowlers provided.
Nevertheless, Rohit’s knock and his partnership with KL Rahul has provided India a brilliant platform and they will hope to build a match-winning first innings score to put England under real pressure.
