Indian pacer Shardul Thakur claimed the key wicket of Jos Buttler for 17 in the ongoing first Test against England in Nottingham. Shardul Thakur, making a couple of crucial scalps in the first innings, made his presence felt in the second too. England grabbed a handy lead, thanks to Joe Root’s fighting knock; however, they lost Buttler at a critical stage. But the hosts have gained a significant lead in the second innings.

The dismissal occurred in the second ball after tea when Virat Kohli decided to continue with Shardul Thakur. Jos Buttler had smacked three boundaries and aimed to play an attacking knock. However, he shouldered arms to a ball from Thakur, with the ball striking the top of the off-stump. It was Shardul’s second wicket after Dan Lawrence.

Earlier, Dom Sibley’s outstanding effort of crease occupation came to an end in his 121st delivery and so did the partnership of 89 with Joe Root. Within the first hour of the morning session, Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah sent back Rory Burns and Zak Crawley, respectively. However, with the pitch easing up, Root and Sibley survived some close calls to get the home side back in the game. England currently have a lead of above 150, with Sam Curran and Joe Root at the crease. The latter has scored a fighting hundred to keep the home side in the game.
