In a heartwarming gesture, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a cash prize for all the Indian athletes who have won a medal in the Tokyo Olympics.

Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra scripted history on Saturday as he helped the nation bag their first gold medal in the 2020 Olympics.

Chopra’s triumph meant that India finished the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with their best ever tally of seven medals.

Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu opened India’s tally in Tokyo 2020 as she bagged a Silver medal.

Ace shuttler PV Sindhu won her second Olympic Medal, backing her Silver medal-winning triumph with a Bronze as did boxer Lovlina Borgohain and wrestler Bajrang Poonia.

The Indian Men’s Hockey Team scripted history as they won an Olympic medal after a long gap of 41 years.

Indian Hockey, which dominated the Olympics between 1928-1980, added their 12th medal and 3rs Bronze medal to their tally to regain lost glory.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to his Twitter account to laud all the medal winners besides announcing cash prizes for all the athletes.

While Neeraj Chopra will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 1 Crore, the silver medal winner Mirabai Chanu will bag Rs 50 Lakh.

25 Lakh cash prize has been announced for the Bronze medal winners while the Indian Men’s Hockey team will be awarded Rs 1.25 Crore.

“Our athletes have made the country proud by finishing on the podium at @Tokyo2020. The @BCCI acknowledges their stellar efforts and we are delighted to announce cash prizes for the medallists,” wrote Jay Shah.
