Hazlewood dismisses Cook

Everything that Australia is touching in the ongoing Ashes is turning into gold and Jose Hazlewood’s catch to dismiss Alastair Cook off his bowling in the second innings of the ongoing third Test in Perth pretty much makes it clear.

England already had their back against the wall after Australia skipper Steve Smith’s double century and Mitchell Marsh’s century helped the hosts to put up a huge first inning total. In reply to England’s decent first innings score of 403, Australia, led by Smith’s monumental 239-run knock, posted a mammoth 662 for 9 (declared). A spirited Australia then came out all guns blazing, and Hazlewood put them firmly on top by dismissing first-innings’ half-centurion Mark Stoneman for just 3.

And even before the tourists could recover from that early setback, Hazlewood struck again, taking a blinder off his bowling to send back Cook for 14. The right-arm pacer pitched one up which Cook wanted to work on the on-side. However, in doing so, he closed the bat-face early and ended up edging the ball right towards the bowler. There was, however, still a lot to do to make the chance count. But Hazlewood stuck his right hand out, grabbed the ball before taking a tumble. His reaction said it all as the commentator called it a ‘magic catch’.
