India star KL Rahul is fast drawing comparisons with the legendary Rahul Dravid because of the way things have panned out in recent time. The right-handed batsman has shown that he can do anything the team-management asks him to do just like his illustrious predecessor Rahul Dravid. In the ongoing ODI series between India and Australia, he batted at number three in the first ODI before being asked to play the role of a finisher in Rajkot on Friday.

Not only that, he was also asked to don the wicketkeeping gloves after Rishabh Pant suffered a concussion in the first game. And just like Rahul Dravid, he did not disappoint. In the first game, he scored 47 before playing a decisive knock of 80 from just 52 balls in the second. It was his knock which eventually made the difference as India beat Australia by 36 runs to draw level in the three-match series.

And as KL Rahul was impressing in Rajkot, the social media was flooded with comparisons between him and his illustrious namesake. But while those comparisons are new for the fans, KL Rahul is used to it. Speaking at the post-match press conference, KL Rahul opened up on the comparisons and said that it was nothing new for him. He also said that it’s great for him to be compared to the former India skipper.

“Yeah, it was very obvious and I have had these comparisons for a long time. Growing up playing cricket as well, you know the names. He is Rahul Dravid, I am Rahul, so the comparison has always been there. He is someone I have spent a lot of time with, talking about cricket, talking about batting,” said KL Rahul.

“Coming from the same state as well. I have the opportunity to go to him or give him a call or talk to him about batting or anything about cricket, so he’s been more than welcome. It’s great to be compared to somebody like that,” he added.
