That Mushfiqur Rahim never shies away from letting his frustration out on the field is well known. But on majority of the occasions, the anger or the frustration come out for the opposition. However, on Saturday (September 15), Mushfiqur’s teammate Rubel Hossain faced his wrath after nearly throwing away his wicket in the Asia Cup-opener against Bangladesh.

The incident occurred in the 42nd over when Bangladesh were already eight down with Mushfiqur still 5 runs short of his sixth ODI century. Lasith Malinga, who had already taken four wickets, bowled one that hit Rubel on the pads. The Sri Lankan fielders went up in unison and umpire Marais Erasmus did not hesitate in raising his finger. Rubel, on the other end, did not even think twice before starting his walk towards the pavilion.

But a livid Mushfiqur then called him back and gave him a earful, forcing his partner to review the decision. And it paid off as the replays showed that Rubel had inside-edged that shot onto his legs.

Well, Rubel did not last long and departed in the very following over with Sri Lanka reaping the reward of the review this time. But Mushfiqur went on to play a stunning knock to guide his team to a respectable total. The former skipper scored a career-best 144 as Bangladesh recovered from 1 for 2 to post a challenging 261.

Mushfiqur’s knock was studded with 11 fours and 4 sixes.
